Flotsam came to mind from my time at sea, serving as captain of a research vessel. On night watch, one of the most dangerous hazards to navigation is flotsam, partially submerged shipping containers that have fallen off vessels. The perilous navigation they create comes from the fact that they are not easily picked up on radar, therefore risking collision. This painting simulates nighttime steaming in fog, with hazy light reflecting off the objects.
